Reflexology is the appliance of pressure on certain positions on the feet, arms, or ears. It originates from Ancient China and is a practice that is widely applied today. Each pressure point is associated with a certain organ in the body and corresponds accordingly. Applying pressure on a particular area has a constructive effect on the organs and a patient’s general health. For example, the upper area of the bottom of the right foot corresponds to the lung and heart organs. A professional reflexologist will use his/her thumbs and fingers to appropriately apply pressure.
The concepts of reflexology are similar to those of acupuncture, however, the pressure points on both therapies don’t coexist. Reflexology uses only reflexes that are found in adjustments across the body such as feet, hands, and other body parts. Acupuncture focuses on certain points that are found along long thin energy points.
